The Long Night of the AND Festival
It’s not just art on show after-hours at the Long Night this Thursday 24thSeptember. There are also towers to climb, tunnels to discover and tours to enjoy. Towers; Liverpool Cathedral Tower and bell chamber will be open for the first time ever at night. There is new floodlighting installed, and the Cathedral is so keen to show it off they have a special Long Night offer of £3.00 per ticket. Radio City Tower has studio tours on the hour from 6.00pm until 8.00pm. They have a special Long Night offer of £3.00 per ticket. Please book in advance. Then you can then compare both their panoramic views with Ben Johnson’s Liverpool Cityscape at the Walker Art Gallery. The Walker is open until 10.30pm and there will be an expert on hand to at 8.00pm to talk about the cityscape. Tunnels; You can also enjoy the Long Night underground. Long Night sponsors Merseytravelare offering free tours of Merseytravel’s George’s Dock Tunnel Ventilation Building at the Pier Head at 6.00 and 7.30.Please book in advance In the Crypt of the Metropolitan Cathedral (Brownlow Hill entrance) Frank Carlyle is giving a talk at 7.00pm on the history of Liverpool and the cathedral, followed by a long Q&A session. Tickets £3.50 each. Tours; The National Trust are opening Mr Hardman’s Photographic Studio at 59 Rodney Street for the first time at night, and early pre booking is recommended. Steve Binns, Liverpool’s Community Historian, will lead a free guided tourdisclosing the radical history associated with both St Georges Hall and the Newz Bar on Water Street (and many places in between – including the town hall). Meet at 6.00pm at the cenotaph on St Georges Plateau. Robin Riley (Chair of the Friends of Liverpool Monuments) will lead a free tour at 6.30pm from the cenotaph onSt Georges Hall plateau through the graveyard, show you the horrors of being under- insured, the joy of Turning the Place Over, and will end at Richard Huws’ Bucket Fountain on Drury Lane. Backstage You can tour backstage at the Liverpool Empire Theatre as well as the rest of the building. Tours are on the hour from 5pm with the last tour at 9.00pm. You can pre book or just turn-up, but there are limited places You can also go backstage at Richard Wilson’s Turning the Place Over and watch it go round from the back. No booking, just turn up.
