Search for Culture Volunteers

A pioneering partnership of Liverpool’s eight leading arts organisations is recruiting volunteer culture ambassadors.
The volunteers will work with specific community groups across Merseyside to encourage them to make the most of the city’s unparalleled range of cultural opportunities.
The Open City project is the brainchild of the Liverpool Arts Regeneration Consortium (LARC), a partnership of the BluecoatFACTLiverpool Biennial,Liverpool Everyman and PlayhouseNational Museums LiverpoolRoyal Liverpool PhilharmonicTate Liverpool and the Unity Theatre.
Gin Jacobucci, who runs Open City, said: “Arts and culture have a vital role to play in all our lives but there’s still massive sections of the community which, often for very good reasons, don’t feel comfortable getting involved with what Liverpool has to offer.
“The idea of Open City is to help break those barriers down. Each volunteer works with a specific community group to create a programme of activity which will appeal to members’ tastes and comfort zones.”
Previous volunteers have worked with single dads, groups of visually impaired people, pensioners and people with mental health issues and, in doing so, played a key role in inspiring individuals and building their confidence to try new things.
Volunteers are asked to commit to around eight hours a week over a period of six months or more. They will liaise with LARC partners to arrange special visits, feedback sessions and workshops. Applicants should have a strong belief in the social benefits of the arts.
